The brief
For its event, Colbe asked Woodwork to create the event visual. What we had to start from was a static design: complex, built from loose blocks of colour and carefully drawn icons. It was ready to be set in motion.
The story behind it is Colbe in a nutshell: the individual, and how we stand stronger together. Every block can stand on its own. Only together do they form the picture.
Our approach
For the opening film we built a set of systems to bring the identity to life. Building blocks that, step by step, became one directed film: a dance between motion design and code.
Every icon was pulled apart into its colour blocks and meticulously animated back together. Tailor-made particle systems, written in code and built in 3D, let thousands of blocks swarm, gather and settle into form. Director tools turned that generative behaviour into a directed film, and wipes, openers and title cards carried the identity through the rest of the day.
The result
One giant screen, built to set the scene and make an impression the moment the day began. A film that grows from a single block into the full Colbe world, and a toolkit that kept the identity moving after the opening.
