We present the Otter Pup's initial mission in this movie. The demonstration vehicle must demonstrate its skills. When it is successful, a larger version of the Otter will be created.
Starfish Space is on a bold and ambitious mission to clean up the cluttered expanse of low orbit.
Their vision? To develop the world's first fleet of versatile and highly-efficient space tugs, capable of servicing in-orbit satellites at a moment's notice. To inspire and captivate potential investors, they turned to Woodwork, who were tasked with bringing Starfish's groundbreaking UtterPup mission to life in a stunning, full-blown CGI film. Together, they are blazing a trail towards a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future for space exploration.
Since we were working with a tech company in development, we had to be more reactive than usual. Most drawings of the Otter Pup were technical models, so we had to dive in and create our own visual interpretation of this work in progress.
This also meant that we had to reshape and adjust our designs to match the actual technical workings and latest developments.
Additionally, we needed a refreshing angle for the film. Recent Hollywood movies feature so much beautiful space travel images that we felt like relating to that quality.
To bring this future vision to our screens today we took a cinematic approach in visualizing the satellite on its mission. We utilized different styles to showcase technical specs and the soon-to-be-real mission while blending seamlessly between the two. From launch to docking we have aimed to create a sense of tension and excitement while accurately explaining the purpose of the mission to a broad audience.
